For OwnersAt this time 2nd Sight Gun Sights offer three models of Z-Flex® sights: Z-Flex® Flip-up Sights
Z-Flex® Flip-up sights encompass several components: The rotating Aiming Aperture with integral luminised brackets; the base unit with integral dovetail machined to fit specified brands of weapons; mounting screws that attach the Aiming Aperture to the base unit that allows the Aperture to swing forward and backwards; and torsion springs which cause the Aiming Aperture to return to the upright position whenever it is nudged or bumped out of position – such as upon drawing or re-holstering the weapon. The Aiming Aperture is designed with two aiming capabilities within one component: the two luminised aiming brackets literally frame the shot at close or combat distances (typically under 25 feet). The Aperture also has a traditional notch-and-dots configuration when it’s necessary to make a carefully placed shot. The dots on either side of the notch help orient the shooter’s aim for a traditional three-dot sight picture. The brackets and dots are luminised with specialized pigments called Super-Luminova® which, when illuminated, provides shooters with the capability for fast, accurate orientation on target whether in bright light or low-light conditions, including total darkness! Super-Luminova®, when activated by sunlight, flashlight, and even UV (black) light sources, glows up to five times brighter than Tritium sights. Once exposed to a light source for approximately 30-60 seconds the luminised components provide a bright after-glow for up to six-eight hours. We tested these sights ourselves and found the sights remained highly illuminated throughout the night and into the early hours of the next morning. Over the course of a night shift a simple re-charge boosts the highly reactive pigments indefinitely; Super-Luminova® does not deteriorate or diminish over time, but can be continuously luminised for years to come. We believe that personal defense weapons equipped with luminised Z-Flex® sights will provide you with fast, accurate sighting capabilities in the event of a home invasion in the middle of the night. The sights were immediately discernible in complete darkness; the sights simply "jump out" at you and help orient the weapon on target. There is no need to look for the three-dot alignment or to see if the front post is centered within the notch. The luminised brackets literally frames the shot so you can get on target as quickly and accurately as possible. Z-Flex® Fixed-base Sights
The Fixed-base sight encompasses the luminised Aiming Aperture with the integral base/dovetail configuration, which is produced from a single piece of metal. This results in an extremely strong unit that is always ready for action. Fixed-base sights are intended for those who prefer their luminised sight to always be in the upright and ready position; it’s for shooters who are not concerned whether the Aiming Aperture folds or gives way if bumped when holstering the weapon. Fixed-base sights, in our opinion, are ideally suited for competition shooters, those concerned with home defense, and new shooters entering the sport who want to quickly and easily master acquiring a good sight picture. And, too, we’ve found that the fixed-base configuration makes it easier to rack the slide on pistols by acting as a sort of “charging handle.” We find that laying your free hand on top of the slide and pressing rearward against the upright Aiming Aperture helps rack the slide without having to grip the pistol’s serrations, thus giving you a more positive means of arming the weapon. Z-Flex® Low-Profile Combat Sights
Low-Profile Combat sights were designed as a no-snag unit for those concerned with a gun sight that does not interfere with drawing or re-holstering the weapon. Low-Profile Combat sights are produced from a single piece of metal as well and incorporate our signature luminised brackets as the primary sighting component. Shooters will find that the brackets literally “hug” the front post when taking careful aim, but also capable of fast, reflexive shooting when threats at close-quarters negate the ability to take aim, but instead requires more of a reflexive/point shooting response. The Low-Profile Combat design is 2nd Sight’s response to Law Enforcement’s request for a low profile design that fits all standard holsters including Security Level I, II, and III holsters as required by many departmental directives. Installation / Adjustments Z-Flex® sights are designed as a “drop-in” unit so shooters can install Z-Flex® sights themselves. No permanent modifications or gunsmithing is required to fit your Z-Flex® sight to the weapon.
Maintenance Z-Flex® sights are easy to maintain requiring only normal cleaning when servicing your weapon.
